Much of this book is just copied right from the Maya Help files, some of it with even less information, which is sometimes more confusing than helpful. You might as well just work through the Help tutorials. I'm an experienced Maya 8 user who bought this book to become familiar with new features in Maya If, as an experienced Maya user, I find things in this book confusing, this is definitely not an ideal book for people who are totally unfamiliar with Maya.

Besides many grammatical errors there are also significant instructional errors like telling you to right-click on something that actually requires a left-click that are going to confuse and frustrate new Maya users.

They didn't bother to proof-read or double-check for errors in this book, apparently. I'm considering returning this for a refund since I feel it is rather expensive for such a poorly done book. Waste of money. I'll read the Maya Help tutorials instead. This book had shown me more than the other book I had. It helped me a lot and it shows everything - all the functions you need for a solid start in animation.

Not even close! I've been using Maya since version 4 and thought this book would be a good reference for new features in I was sadly mistaken. This book is not a useful guide for any Maya user regardless of their experience level.
